Jack of Swords

Jack of Swords

The third completed card in my tarot card series.

Shiima as the Jack of Swords. Commonly called a knight. I decided to rename them to Jacks for the same reason they call them Jacks instead of Knaves on the modern playing card deck. Namely, that K is the same letter for King. I’m still not positive on that. But its growing on me. I’m also of still of the opinion that the lens flare is a bit cheesy, but I think it adds something to the effect. Opinions?

    Not cheesy. It definitely adds something. Nice job.

    I’m a fan of calling them Jacks. Knaves sounds like an insult or a sissy these days. Besides, it’s a modern deck.

    The flare looks good on the black background and with the illustrated style.

    Seen in my contacts’ photos. (?)

    Lens flare always works.

    I like the pose, and the attitude given by the model, but I don’t like how this is in an illustrated style, while the rest of the tarot cards are not. but perhaps i want everything in the smale style for the same reason i want everything in my house to be white – i’m crazy.

    @ferrous: thank you.

    @Jack Scoresby: and that has nothing to do with your name?

    @Sick Little Monkey: yeah, that’s why I decided to keep it. I think it gives the swords a certain magical quality.

    @MegaBee: how very 1995 of you. 🙂

    @avolare: thanks. I was definitely happy with his pose and attitude. The reason it doesn’t seem to match stylistically is because its the only sword card that is done. Each suit has a different linking style that unites them. All the swords are going to look like this, while all of the cups for instance are going to be B&W color cutouts.

    Not really. I’m fond of the name Jack for many reasons like that though. The various Jacks in cards. Jack of all trades, Jack Frost, Jack O Lantern, etc.

    @Jack Scoresby: yeah, I know… I was teasing. I think I may go with this. I like it conceptually.

    Very nice and the lens flare works with the overall look of the card.

    @sadandbeautiful (Sarah): yeah, people are easing my fears on that. Thank you.

    Excellent conception of this card. The lens flare – I’m neutral on it – either way.
