Day 243 of 365 days.

Way back in August before I started this project, I had a house party. In fact, it was the grandmama of all house parties. The fabled pajama jammy jam. It was a really good party and everyone had a lot of fun, but there was a small bit of collateral damage. A few too many people tried to sit on my porch swing at one time and the hooks that hold it up were yanked from the ceiling. We never got around to fixing it.

Well, when I was gone in Boston last week, Steph’s father was nice enough to come by and rehang it.

Porch swing was never a big requirement for a house for me, but I can’t rave enough about how awesome it is to have one. Ours was handcrafted in Amish country and picked up for us by a neighbor. It’s very well made, sturdy and nicer than pretty much anything you can find in any store anywhere, and it only ended up costing me like $100.

There’s nothing so nice and relaxing on a depressing day as sitting on your porch swing and watching it rain outside. Probably the only thing that could have been better is if I happened to live on the dock of a bay so that I could watch the tide roll away and waste some time.

Hope you’re contemplative and not depressed, because this is a wonderful portrait. Nice job.

@lrayholly: thanx. Actually, I was kind of depressed at the time. Feeling a bit better now.

I like this portrait, Chris… and really do find the idea of porch swings so romantic… Never did have one in my years growing up or since, but… there is definitely an appeal in them. (if spring ever really comes to my part of the world I too may do some outdoor shots…. I have noticed a lot of them lately).

@Mary-Cakes / Desiree: yeah, its also nice and romantic to sit out on during a storm. But at the time of this shot Steph was inside, so it was just me. I’m glad you like it. Thanks.

i want a porch swing…but that would require an awning or something, that we don’t have, to hang it from…. or to buy one on a stand and they just don’t have the same feel.

    yay for steph’s dad!

@pi c’s: totally. I don’t think it would feel the same on a stand.

@sadandbeautiful (Sarah): well, you could stop at amish country when you come visit for a party and to pose for photos. I’m glad you like the shot. Thank you.

That’s it. I’m getting a hammock this summer.

@MegaBee: I’ve thought about it. But I’m pretty happy with the swing.
