Obligatory plug: If you haven’t yet, go vote in my annual sexiest woman alive contest. It won’t take much time and it should be fun.
So the Maverick Tarot project (some pics, NSFW) is well underway. I’ve been using a mixture of friends of mine and models, but I think its going well. I actually have quite a great deal of the 78 cards planned out, but I still need more people to pose for them. So if you’re interested, please let me know.
For everyone who volunteered before so long as they could be a specific card, I just want to make it clear that all the major arcana cards are nude. In the minor arcana, the wardrobe’s vary by suit:
- Swords: Goth, Punk, Club or Fancy clothes
- Staffs: Preppy, Trendy or Biz Casual clothes
- Cups: Urban, Hipster, Street or Hiphop clothes
- Coins: Formal and Dressy clothes
- Major: Nudes and Implied Nudes
It actually gets even more complicated than that, once you get into my ideas for each indivudual card, and each suit is in a different artistic stle, hence the cartoony, illustration style of Shiima on the pic for this post, but that gives you the baseline I am working from.
Oh, and I’m looking for a couple props. I need a set of balance scales (which I think atraxen said before he might have). And I need some interesting staffs. Does anyone have cool canes I can borrow? And what I really would love to borrow would be a really ornate spear. Anyone have one of those? And if you have ideas for different types of coins that show up well in photos, let me know there too. That’s the most problematic of the suits.
So the photography is going well. I’m actually feeling more confident about being able to finish this project and maybe even sell it one day. I wish my day job hunt was going better. In the meantime. If anyone wants to hire me to do portraits or headshots, I could totally use the work and extra. So let me know if you are in need (or know someone who is).
In the meantime, I’ve been booked up pretty well with photoshoots for this thing, but I’m still going to need more (78 cards is a lot). So who wants to help me out sometime soon?
And oh yeah, please go vote in my survey. I want a nice big turn out like last year so we can hopefully get some interesting results.

This is effectively a cross-post, but I thought it’d be easier for you to keep track of here… I’ve got a rifle with spike bayonet (.303 British Enfield – pic here). I’ve got a two pan balance scale (decorative but simple appearance white marble base, wood pillar, brass cross beam and pans – I’ll try to grab a pic tonight when I get home), too. No canes or spears, though. :*( I’m still game for modeling, and I think Gabriela is, too. The weekend of May 26th is looking like an oasis of calm in my schedule, and a few weekends in June are open, too – July gets nuts because of my teaching load though.
I’d actually like to borrow that rifle at some point for a photo of one of my characters.
No problem – I can think of advantages to having someone else’s fingerprints on it… I mean, sure – you can borrow it. -inno-
that gun is exactly what I want, actually. The 26th may or may not be good. Depends on whether or not I have a wrestling show that day. (there’s a tentative one scheduled). I definitely am open on the 27th though. I need to talk to you guys sometime before then and come up with an idea though. Do you have my phone number? Call me sometime this week.
And yeah, I’d definitely like to borrow the scales if you don’t mind. Though I haven’t found a “Justice” yet.
Cool. Here’s a pic of the scales – you can hang on to them until you’re done with them. I’ve got your number (the last two digits are 66 – if that’s wrong, let me know) and I’ll try to call this weekend. I can probably work with other days – just thought I’d give you a starter-date.
cool. Yeah, I want to borrow them. Hmmm… I have a bunch of minor arcana cards that I’m using friends for that I need to knock out of the way. Maybe I should just get some alcohol and invite a few people over on the 26th to hang out, drink and knock out 5 or 6 cards.

I’d love to volunteer myself and any stuff I can find for props. I gots a red kimono, several types of swords, and some foreign coins (euros mostly). Let me know how you’d like me to help.
it totally might… extra swords are always good, cups too.. but interesting coins and staffs are the important/hard part.
I’m still up for being a model if you’re still taking photos when I’m in town for a few days before July 4th, though given your wardrobe preferences I may have to change from the Jack of Staves I was thinking of to something in Swords. ie I have nothing in my wardrobe that counts as “Preppy, Trendy or Biz Casual” and lots that count as “Goth, Punk, Club”, though I can probably generate a gothy form of urban or hipster. I probably just chose Staffs as I’ve been doing a lot of fire staff spinning this year.
I’ll see if I make it in for July 4th this year.

I will also be in town for 4oJ, and I volunteer for one of the minor cards. I can pack a suit or biz casual clothes for Coins or Staffs if you give me a heads up of your preference before the end of June. I currently sport an “executive” haircut. Totally banal.

I already know who I’m using for Jack of staffs. But, write me next time you know you’re going to be in town. The fire spinning idea is interesting.

I’ll be in your area Saturday and can show/loan you the staves that I have. That also seems to fit my day to day style the closest. I’ve got a bit more flexibility, though in feminine clothes if you have any ideas along that route.
borrowing cool staffs, spears and canes would be great. Thanks. You mentioned the crossdressing idea before, and I actually think its really interesting. Just not sure where I’d use it… I actually have pretty extensive themes that move across the deck between suits and numbers, and I’m not sure where to fit it in. Finding female models is easy… its the males that are difficult.
