Day 253 of 365 days. So in the middle of the day, Steph walks up to me and says that since its a nice day we should go out and see the buffalos. I counter with the obvious. Yes, it is a nice day, but we live in Pittsburgh, there are no buffalos. She assured…

Day 226 of 365 days. You know, I almost want to call this a bringing sexy back pic? What do you people think? I got to sleep in today. It was nice and I needed it. After I finally did get up, I did a little bit of the moving from our current bedroom to…

Cathedral of Learning

Cathedral of Learning

For the Class With Dave group. Assignment: Black and White architecture. This is a repeat assignment from earlier. My original version of this assignment was a much more standard, though high contrast B&W night scene, so I decided to go with something more creative and different from what I normally do. This was shot in the afternoon on the University of Pittsburgh campus. In order to get more fantastic and less realistic tones, I used a combination of Channel Mixer, Curves and Levels adjustment layers with layer masks.

Channel Mixer:
Red: +40 Green: +180 Blue: -100

Levels 1:
input Black: 10 Gray: 1.00 White: 233
output Black: 0 White: 255
with a layer mask blocking out the right (bright) side of the sky.

Curves (input,output):
0,0 41,90 168,141 197,181 228,137 255,255
with a layer mask blocking out the building and the tree

Levels 2:
input: Black: 0 Gray: 1.24 White: 255
output Black: 0 White: 255

Bus Accident

Bus Accident

For Class With Dave. Assignment: Reportage

Two city blocks in the Carrick region of Pittsburgh were blocked off today by police and fire personel after a minor accident involving two city buses and a gasoline truck. While the police were detouring traffic around, I took the opportunity to park my car and take advantage of my good luck for this weeks assignment. Not as cool as when I witnessed a shooting a couple months ago, but it was something.

For Class with Dave. Assignment: Fill the frame

I actually fill the frame on portraits all the time, so I wanted to do something a little different. I ended up stopping by the Mt. Oliver Fire Department on my way home the other day and asked if I could take pictures of them cleaning their trucks. Initially I was going to use that as my "newsworthy" photo, but frankly all of them sucked. But I did like this shot and so here it is.

Day 215 of 365 days. Found out today that I didn’t get one of the jobs I was up for. I don’t know that I’m super-bummed out about it. It wasn’t the greatest job ever or anything like that, in fact if I were offered everything I have applied for lately, that would not have…

Day 200 of 365 days. How much a part of my life has this project become? This is day 200 and I didn’t even realize that til I was posting. So I didn’t think to plan anything special or huge or vainglorious. It was just another day in my life and I took a picture…

Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night

Taken for the Class with Dave group. The assignment was to take a picture inspired by music. This is about as inspired as one can get I guess. This is Bonfire Night, my friend Lisa’s band. Steph and I went to go see them perform on Friday night. Sadly, Lisa stood in the shadows pretty much the entire time, so the rest of the band shows up much better than she does. Better pictures of her are available in the photoshoot of her I did a while back.

pittsburgh pedestrian

pittsburgh pedestrian

Homo Sapiens Alleghenius from the Pittsburgh region of Pennsylvania, USA. Indigenous Pittsburghers are among the most pedestrian peoples on the planet. While they certainly possess the physical capability to operate motor vehicles, many go their entire lives without ever receiving instructions to do so. While several will use communal transportation, it is not uncommon for them to travel through walking.

Homo Sapien Alleghenius is a mostly omnivorous creature, though like this specimen they prefer gathering to hunting. Both genders are capable of mating at any point throughout the year and females give live birth. The population typically dwells in structures of their own creation in either the mountains or by their environment’s numerous rivers.

For the Class with Dave group. Assignment: National Geographic style picture of somebody in their natural habitat.

Day 170 of 365 days. We’ve had an extremely gentle winter in Pittsburgh so far, but I guess that can’t last forever. The snow has been picking up the last several days, but I hadn’t gotten around to going out there and take a picture til today. Steph looked out the window and saw that…
