at errid10t‘s suggestion, I decided to try to give flickr.com a try. So i started a photo blog there. No new photos yet, just some of my old favorites. But give them a look and let me know if you like anything. Hopefully this will inspire me to take more photos. If it does, maybe I’ll send them money for a paid account.

yep. It wasn’t bad to set up at all. Did you get the MacOS X uploadr client? Also you can do stuff like setting up phone posts to your LJ if you have a camera phone. its pretty cool.

I don’t have a camera phone, but the MacOS X Uploadr was like stupid easy to get and use. Fun!

Do you know what the size limit is? I think I might have exceeded my total already.

Yeah, the free account is limited. I haven’t paid to upgrade yet, but you get a lot more if you do.

          From the FAQ:

          3. Can I pay to keep more of my photos on Flickr?

Absolutely! And you can take advantage of our special beta offer, and upgrade to a Pro Account for just US$41.77 a year. Here’s what you’ll get with a Pro Account:

          • 1 GB monthly upload limit
          • Unlimited storage
          • Unlimited bandwidth
          • Unlimited photosets
          • Permanent archiving of high-resolution original images
          • Ad-free browsing and sharing (**coming soon)

Compare that to what you get with a Free Account:

          • 10 MB monthly upload limit
          • 3 photosets
          • Photostream views limited to the 100 most recent images
          • Storage of smaller (resized) images

For more information, visit our upgrade page.

            “Pro” account

Friends of mine had been telling me about it for a while before I took the plunge. There’s part of me that is still worried about the data control aspect (what happens if they go under?)

But I’m really impressed with the product, I really like the attitude of the company behind it, and I want to support them. I’m a metadata geek so the tagging & notes just make me feel all warm & fuzzy. The community aspect (We have a party, everyone post your images into this pool) seems neat, but I haven’t used it yet.

It’s a bit more expensive than I thought it would be (but they must have a huge bandwidth bill) but it’s only ~$3.50/mo.

So after hearing about it for months I went from dipping my toes in to a full pro account in a roughly 24hr period. 🙂
