Day 56 of 365 days.

Rather than having dining room furniture, Steph and I have converted our dining room into an old fashioned bar. The corner piece of it is a bar my grandfather built back in 1976. When he died a couple years ago, I inherited it and transported it to our house. I put in new barstools, hung a TV and a shelf over it, and I even have a lightup Guinness sign hanging over it. I think its one of the most unique features of our house. One of these days I’ll have to take a picture of me behind it to add to this project. Anyway, Steph decided last week that she wanted to get a table for the dining room as well. I didn’t really want to ruin the bar appeal. We compromised by getting a bar height diner style table and placing it against the wall. We also picked up some more barstools for it (that match our other barstools). All of this came from Ikea, the source of all good things in the universe. Being that it was Ikea furniture, we of course had to assemble it ourselves. This presented a good idea for a self-portrait. So this is me assembling the barstool that I am currently sitting on.

You have such a look of concentration on your face! 😉
Don’t tell anyone, but I actually hate Ikea. Shhh!

I wanna see the bar now!

hate Ikea? How can that be?

I’m sure I’ll get a pic of me at the bar up one of these days.

    I know, I’m a freak of nature. 😉
It’s two things, really. I do like what they have there (a lot, in fact), BUT…First of all I hate the way the stores are laid out, forcing me to travel through the path they’ve determined, having to go through everything just to get to the one area I might have been interested in.
Secondly, I find their things incredibly difficult to put together. When Target was new to me and I first bought a piece of furniture there, I was ecstatic at how easy it was for me to assemble by myself!

Those Swedes sure know to put in almost everything you need.

I want to see the bar too. i rented a house solely because it had a bar and beer tap. i thought it was hilarous to pour my own beer.
i agree with sarah, i’m not into ikea but my ex used to drag to there every month. i love heavy 60’s retro stuff.

Ok, first, I thought you were assembling a broken walker…you know like the elderly use?? so i’m glad that’s not the case 🙂

ah, i’m excited to see the bar….before i bought our house in 2002, i looked at a few others nearby and 2 of the 3 had bars built into the basement which was very appealing at the time (i was buying and taking 2 roommates from my old place with me!). however, the house i chose didn’t need as much cosmetic maintenance done to it…i paid a little more but i wasn’t really "handy" nor was involved with anyone that was.

as for IKEA…i agree with sarah about the "Path" however i always dodge it…i know our local ikea pretty well and know how to get to where i want without following their "rules". I do, however, hate putting together their furniture…but i have a friend that LOVES to so whenever i go to IKEA i just invite them over 😀 Chris could go to IKEA on a weekly basis just to walk around…but he’s a freak!

Mav, sounds really nice. And i believe it does look nice also.

SARAH YOU HATE IKEA???? and JEN YOU TOO?
So, now you know that you will never be able to come over here and visit us, our furniture is about 98% Ikea-Stuff 😉
I am very very happy about it.
btw Ina DOES go to Ikea once a week, Jen 😉 You better not tell Chris.

Sascha, I hate Ikea but I love you! Does that count for anything? 😉

That counts for trouble at home and you to go crazy if you and your family would come over to germany and give us a visit someday, cause you’d get some allergic reaction with all the IKEA things around here. ;-)) LOL.

I really don’t have much problem with putting the stuff together at all. *shrug*

I promise, the bar will show up sooner or later… technically, it already has.
