Day 613 of 365 More.

You are probably saying "oh look, there’s Mav and his DVD collection." Shows how much you know. This is not my DVD collection. This is the stack of movies that I hadn’t bothered to file alphabetically into my DVD collection in the last couple months. Steph has been complaining about them being in the way, so tonight I went and filed them.

I hate when people talk about their movie collection and I go to their house and see like 20 DVDs. That’s not a collection. That’s failure to return your rentals. 20 DVDs means there might be a time when you’re not in the mood to watch any of them. 600 DVDs means when company comes over and says "we’re in the mood to watch some…" you have the covered. I used to joke about having a problem. But I was only joking. I don’t think its a problem at all.

Of course, when iw as filing these away I noticed that I actually own Striking Distance. What the hell was I thinking?

You probably thought I’d talk about tax day today, huh? Well, you’re right. I just did it here.

365 days

Plus you own the best pointless t-shirts too! 😉

  2. April 16, 2008 at 12:48 am

Ah but do you have the greatest film of all time… Home Alone (yes it really is my favorite movie)

  3. April 16, 2008 at 12:52 am

yeah my "collection" is about 20 dvd’s but that’s only bc i’m poor haha

  4. April 16, 2008 at 1:14 am

You know you have too many DVD’s when you come home after buying a new DVD and realise you already have it. I have done that more than one time.

  5. April 16, 2008 at 1:47 am

My mom and I go out once a month and buy up all the new releases. I don’t think we ever come back to the house without a new DVD. On top of all the new releases we usually end up getting 1 or 2 older movies. It’s an addiction. We probably have around 400ish…I never have trouble finding a movie to fit my mood.

And I personally alphabetize them all because it drives me crazy when things are out of order.

You probably have "Striking Distance" for the local flavor.

  7. April 16, 2008 at 6:59 am

Very good, there’s something you can strike off the old "to-do list". I don’t have a problem with the dvds so much, but could you come over and organize my books?

Seen in my contacts’ photos. (?)

Nothing like a good collection of entertainment. Alphabetized is cool. Genre is also an option. More than 40 new titles in a couple of months? Hope space is not an issue.

Seen on your photo stream. (?)

@mickeysacks: I was wondering if anyone would try to read it… ok not really. 🙂

@M.Gruber: eh…. there are much better really reallly bad movies than Home Alone. 🙂

@nicky’s_eye_view: well, your problem is that you’re probably wasting money on useless stuff like food. Get the priorities and essentials first. 🙂

@kridgett kreations: that doesn’t really happen to me. I have them all cataloged in a database (that I used to export to the web, but haven’t in a while. I should start doing that again). I’m pretty good at remembering them all.

@like_shipwrecks: and you have a mac. You should pick up Delicious Library. At least, that’s what I normally suggest. But I’ve been playing with DVDpedia lately as well and I’m thinking that might be even better. But anyway, they’re DVD library management systems, and very useful.

@max1975: yeah. I’m sure I was just in the mood to see some awesome bridge teleportation. I hope I didn’t pay more than a couple bucks for it.

@lrayholly: heh… I’m not even close to having that done yet.

@DeHoll: genre is even more inefficient that alphabet as a library schema, since its subjective. I may go library of congress one of these days.

Dang that is alot of movies then. That means that you must throw a hell of a party. Do you have them all written down too incase you ever loan one out? Cause then you wouldn’t remember who had what.

  11. April 16, 2008 at 9:42 am

Yep. I have more than that which need to be shelved. But that means I have to reorganize the shelves and take over another set from some books….

I’ve slowed way down on purchases of late, and now I even have Blockbuster Online’s cheapo $4 per month service — two rentals per month. I have No Country For Old Men waiting around till I have time to watch it with Susan, once tech week and opening weekend are over for Once Upon a Mattress (we open Friday).

So Mav, how many of your movie purchases are still wrapped and unwatched? I’ll have to count mine….

  12. April 16, 2008 at 9:56 am

@blueroan2000: I actually do throw a hell of a party but we really don’t watch movies during them. Mostly hang out, talk, drink, listen to the live bands and have pajama contests. And I have a database (that I mentioned to like_shipwrecks above) that tells me what I have and who I’ve loaned it to.

@phlewght: Steph wants me to switch to using blockbuster or netflicks, but I don’t want to. They don’t fit my viewing model. I never know what I want to watch ahead of time, so it’d be impossible to say "oh, I want these two this month." And yes, I have PLENTY of movies that aren’t open yet.

  13. April 16, 2008 at 10:09 am

I just counted 78 out of about 500 titles that are still wrapped. Add 30 or so that are unwrapped yet unwatched.

Yeah, that is a drawback to the online services — shipping whatever’s available. What if I’m not in the mood for it, or I’m too tired to pay close attention to films that require it? Like my current rental — the Coen brothers’ movies are like that, and I can’t watch it while the kids are around. That’s the primary reason my Godfather set is still in its wrapper — I need a long block of kid-free time for even one of them.

  14. April 16, 2008 at 10:42 am

@phlewght: I don’t even want to try to count. It would only serve to depress me.

  15. April 16, 2008 at 10:50 am

I’m terrible. I’ve only seen two of those movies.

Seen in my contacts’ photos. (?)

  16. April 16, 2008 at 11:04 am

you should The Animation Show vol. 1 & 2 to your collection.

  17. April 16, 2008 at 12:09 pm

"That’s not a collection. That’s failure to return your rentals." Hah hah! Just be glad you don’t own Devour or Godsend. What travesties those were.

  18. April 16, 2008 at 4:31 pm

Striking Distance? Bitch, you own Soul Plane!

  19. April 16, 2008 at 5:11 pm

@shockingbird: honestly, most of them you could probably do without. I’m just weird.

    @johnnytreehouse: buy them for me

@adayinthelife: nope, never got either of those. I actually don’t care much for Horror movies, though I do have a few.

@MegaBee: hey! Soul Plane is a classic!

  20. April 16, 2008 at 6:19 pm

I am pretty addicted to horror across the board, but I would be hard pressed to call these two anything but crap. Sadly.

  21. April 16, 2008 at 7:17 pm

ok have you got the sequel to ‘weekend at bernies’ I love the first one but have only watched the sequel once half drunk….I need to see it! great shot

  22. April 16, 2008 at 8:43 pm

haha! My son has that shirt.

    Seen in some comments. (?)

  23. April 17, 2008 at 8:47 am

@adayinthelife: never been much of a fna. I tend to just think they’re silly, but yes, you’re right. Some are even more silly than others.

@disco~stu: no, I don’t, actually. Though I have seen it. It’s really bad, but it does have that R&B classic Voodoo: Get On Up! in it, and what could be better than that.

@~*Denise*~: heh. Cool. I am quite fond of it.

  24. April 17, 2008 at 9:15 am

@chris – oh drat! yup I remember it being pretty awful when I saw it but thats all…….like you say though cracking song! hehe

  25. April 17, 2008 at 7:48 pm

@disco~stu: heh… now I feel like watching it again.
