Day 883 of 365 Again.

So Steph and I are going on vacation to Vegas next week. I’ve been thinking about what I’m most looking forward to. Of course one of those things is winning millions of dollars. One of those things is going to see the Blue Man Group. But you know what I’m really looking forward to?

Swimming.

A couple months ago, I got a new point and shoot, the Olympus Stylus 1030SW. I’ve used it a few times in this project when I’m feeling too lazy to deal with the SLR. But I haven’t had a chance to do the real baptism of fire yet. Underwater shooting!

Supposedly, the camera is waterproof to like 30 feet, and it has underwater shooting modes that I’ve been wanting to try out, but I haven’t had the chance since I got it after I closed my pool for the winter. it seems to work fine in the shower, but it’s somehow not the same.

Still, testing it out at least gives me something to do for a shot today.

Aha! Nifty new gadget – it’ll be fun. Looks like it does fine in the shower.

My temptation to buy that camera is rising.

One thing to remember — if the air sealed inside the camera is humid, droplets will condense inside the camera while it’s in water colder than the dewpoint. You probably won’t have a problem in Vegas — desert, Winter — but it’s something to remember for warm weather, or opening the thing in a humidified room.

I found that out with my Pentax W10 during a summer trip to Ohio. The inside of the lens window misted up that day in Ohio. In Key West the next May, I never opened it from the time we left Minnesota to our return.

My Pentax never suffered any ill effects, so hopefully Olympus designed yours with this in mind.

I saw one of those in a demo…a guy went into a tank in full scuba gear and was taking pictures of the crowd and showing the LCD out so you could see them…..cool little cam
