Well you shouldn’t love it, you need one that is bigger better faster stronger, trust me.

  2. May 19, 2014 at 4:53 am

Yeah. That just seems even creepier.

  3. May 19, 2014 at 4:55 am

Yep, definitely getting too much “excessive consumerism = good” vibe off that. If the girl loves her teddy bear then offering her a bigger one doesn’t remove that love of her little teddy bear.

See. I’m on my phone. And I didn’t get that it was Jesus when I first saw the pic and when you don’t know that it has a total pedophile vibe.

  5. May 19, 2014 at 4:58 am

exactly. so it’s reminiscent of some of the christian inadequacy complex. What you have/are isn’t good enough.
Oh, Mav, it totally has both, very multi-layered creepy & messed up messages.

  6. May 19, 2014 at 5:00 am

Oh that’s totally there too, they just cropped the picture. What you can’t see is the white paneled van just behind him.

Hahah… POINTS!!! Steve Shaffer you have won the internet.

  8. May 19, 2014 at 5:27 am

It’s also horribly blasphemous. Not once in the Bible is Jesus ever depicted exchanging teddy bears with small children. (Gnostic gospels don’t count)

  9. May 19, 2014 at 5:28 am

Also, they both appear to have leprosy.

  10. May 19, 2014 at 5:39 am

also jesus is supposed to look like ned the wino…

  11. May 19, 2014 at 5:46 am

If that’s Jesus’s approach to stuff, then I think that they totally got the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade wrong.

I understand the point the artist is trying to make, but they failed in the execution.

There is about a billion better ways he can express trusting Christ. Wow, just wow.

  13. May 19, 2014 at 11:55 am

    That is so creepy.

  14. May 19, 2014 at 1:48 pm

‘What does God need with a panel van?’

  15. May 19, 2014 at 2:25 pm

I don’t even understand what it means.

  16. May 19, 2014 at 3:07 pm

Why is the bigger bear better than the bear you love?

  17. May 19, 2014 at 3:16 pm

The bigger bear is too heavy. It would totally hold her back.

  18. May 19, 2014 at 3:18 pm

or drag her under when they try to walk on water.

  19. May 19, 2014 at 4:02 pm

and the idea that bigger is better is misleading.

  20. May 19, 2014 at 4:05 pm

    so gross

  21. May 19, 2014 at 5:41 pm

So basically… the answer is… “it’s not just me”

  22. May 19, 2014 at 5:52 pm

Yeah, it creeped me out too.

  23. May 19, 2014 at 6:41 pm

Also… Even taking what they are TRYING to say, which is “blind faith is rewarded,” it’s kind of a dick move. Biblical Jesus usually says stuff like “do this and you’ll get into heaven”

This Jesus is more do this because I said so. And then he happens to reward you after. That’s more Old Testament God. (Sacrifice your son because I said so)

  24. May 19, 2014 at 6:59 pm

Neither version is good. The son is as bad as the father for different reasons.

  25. May 19, 2014 at 7:05 pm

Oh. I wasn’t disputing that. I’m just saying this cartoon seem dickish even compared to the biblical Jesus.

  26. May 19, 2014 at 7:15 pm

Technically Biblical Jesus just says follow me and you get into Heaven. Works are just part of a response to his love, not a requirement. But then you were not giving a sermon and I see the point you make with the pic and agree.

    🙂

  27. May 19, 2014 at 7:16 pm

well, it kinda is about blind faith, sacrifices will be rewarded tenfold… or some such. but i still think steve won this round
