Black Friday!<\/p>\n

It’s funny. Black Friday isn’t nearly as scary as it used to be. Steph refused to go out shopping with me, because she believes the hype that you hear on the news. People being trampled to death<\/a> or shooting each other at a toy store<\/a>. But really, these days, those are isolated incidents. <\/p>\n

See the thing is, Black Friday ain’t what it used to be. In the old days, 20 million people would descend upon a random Children’s Palace in Omaha (somewhere in middle America) to fight each other to the death over the rumored existence of 14 in-stock Cabbage Patch Dolls. Those days are over. These days, Black Friday is a complete invention of the media. Most of the sales actually go on for several days, not just Friday. Some start the day before Thanksgiving. Most are also available on the Internet. And all the crazy people, who really care, camp out Thanksgiving night and are already there when the store opens at 5am. By the time I went out to Best Buy at noon, it was essentially a regular shopping day, with some really good deals on the remaining inventory.<\/p>\n

That said, I did get a nice deal on a Sony Bluray player, which allowed me to expand the available DVD playing devices in my house to twelve, and the available Bluray playing devices to two. Some might consider this a little excessive, I suppose, but hey… I can watch movies from my bathtub. Can you?<\/p>\n
