About Mav

218176872_ca0ce634b2_oHello, My name is Christopher Maverick. But please, call me Mav.

What do I do for a living? It depends on what day of the week you ask me. I have been involved in the IT industry since 1992, primarily as a Web/UI Designer and Information Architect. I have worked with clients from small start-up companies to international Fortune 500 conglomerates.

In 1998, I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing and an additional major in Literary and Cultural Studies and an art minor. Since that time I have also worked as a writer and continue to pursue creative fiction as well as the study of popular culture. I write and sometimes draw the comic strip Cosmic Hellcat Adventures and all the random ranting and raving you see here on this blog.

I’ve also continued to pursue an art career. Besides comics, I’ve also spent the last several years working as a photographer, doing primarily glamour work as well as a bunch of other random projects. One of my largest projects is “365 Days,” a combination of photojournalism and blogging, where I am documented my entire life every day for four years. In doing so, I have directly inspired thousands of people across the world to attempt the same. One of these days, I’ll get all of those posts integrated into this site.

In 2012, I decided to give up my full-time design career (at least temporarily) and return to grad school. I completed a Master’s Degree in Literary and Cultural Studies, again from Carnegie Mellon) in 2013 and since that fall, I have been pursuing a PhD in English from Duquesne University. I continue to focus a lot of my research on 20th century American pop culture (usually comic books, TV shows or movies), especially as it relates to gender, class and race.

Oh yeah, and from 2003-2010, I also competed as a professional wrestler. Yes, really…
