Mavademics: The Protagonist Podcast – Cool Runnings Edition

So even though I was super busy for the last month and didn’t blog as many movie reviews as I usually do, that doesn’t mean I wasn’t thinking about it. My friend Joe Darowski invited me to be on his podcast, The Protagonist Podcast, to discuss the movie Cool Runnings with him and his co-hosts Todd and Andrew in honor of the Winter Olympics. If you’ve never seen it before it’s the (very loosely) inspired by a true story, tale of the very first Jamaican bobsled team. And as always, I am a media whore, so of course since I’m on the show, I’m going to pimp it out. So if you’ve ever wanted to hear me review a movie with other people while straining not to swear so as to help them maintain their family friendly rating, here’s your chance. Give it a listen and let me know what you think.

As a side note and speaking of pimping things. I’m just about ready to start my own pop culture podcast, with my friends Wayne and Katya where we discuss… well pop culture stuff… with a mixture of academic and non-academic criticism. Just about ready means that … well, we’re mostly ready, except that all three of us are very busy all the time and lazy good for nothings with poor motivational skills, so we keep slacking off on actually pulling the trigger and getting into it. But I’m trying to force myself to fix that. So, who would want to be a guest? As an added note, unlike The Protagonist (which again, is awesome and you should subscribe to it… on iTunes or stitcher or wherever podcasts are sold… you know…  like for free and stuff) this would be my show… so there’s going to be liberal allowance for cursing. There will also likely be beer. More details to come as we get around to… you know… doing it… but I the meantime, we totally need guest volunteers. So if you’re interested in movies, or comics, or tv show, or books, or music, or video games or… well, stuff that happens that is fun and popular and would be interested in discussing it at some point let us know.

But for now, totally go listen to the show that is out that has me on it by people who have gumption and stuff.

Eh… I don’t think it’s as cringe worthy as she implies. I address many of the same issues on the show. But she even said, it’s a kids movie. It isn’t very deep. It actually held up way better than I thought it would.

I’m still stuck on the “Mav managed not to swear a lot” part . . . ?

I’m proud of you – but I notice you don’t plan to restrain yourself on your podcast. 😉

Let me know when it happens!

I would very much like to be a guest along with my producer Sami Story-Camp. We could discuss our webiside series “The Pittsburgh SOAPranos” as part of the podcast.
