So they are unlikely to be the same rate. I ran a chi-square test using the death/arrest rate numbers that Strauss gave above. There is only a .026% chance that the rates for blacks and whites is the same. (In psychology, our criteria for calling something significant is probability equals 5%, so this is much lower than that.) So, I would conclude that black people are statistically significantly more likely to be killed by cops than white people. True, this is a low rate. However if it’s you or one of your loved ones, you might disagree.
