drunken photoshoots

This is a weird thing that keeps showing up in my feed even though I know that it came out over a year ago. But every time it comes up, I look at it and say… I want to do this!!!

It’s a series from Marcos Alberti. He calls it “The Wine Project” and it’s fucking amazing. Basic premise, get model. Take portrait. Model takes drink. Take another portrait. Repeat and create ever growing series of drunken portraits.

I love it. I kind of want to do it. I wonder if the cool way to do it is just standard sitting portraits like he does or if it would make sense to actually try to do something creative and posey…. Maybe both. I have no idea.

Anyway… I kinda vaguely want to try it. Any takers? (Warning, I may be getting drunk myself).

Edit: In answer to Steve Shaffer’s question, I should have made this clear. This is not a “modeling experience required” kind of thing. I like the concept he used.

    Thaaaaat’s awesome.

    1. July 10, 2017 at 12:10 pm

Isn’t it though? Did you look at some of the others?

    2. July 10, 2017 at 12:12 pm

Yeah, my favorites are the ones that are “model face,” “model face,” “oh no,” “How face?! What is face?!”

    3. July 10, 2017 at 12:13 pm

Also interested to see how you photography changes as you get drunker.

    4. July 10, 2017 at 12:20 pm

yeah, that part is kind of fun too…. Though honestly, I’d probably edit them sober.

      “The raw edition”

    6. July 10, 2017 at 2:15 pm

nope…. I’m a photographer with standards. Never post raw photos!!!

  2. July 10, 2017 at 12:13 pm

I’m no model by any means, but I’m willing to be photographed while drinking for the sake of science and art. Honestly, I’m pretty much always down for anything involving me drinking.

Oh yeah… I should have made that clear. This is not a “modeling experience required” kind of thing. I like the concept he used.

Next time I’m in PA I’d totally be down 🙂

    3. July 10, 2017 at 12:21 pm

Get in your car now!!! 😛

    4. July 10, 2017 at 2:13 pm

if you’re providing potable potables, i’m up for a group shoot… tax write off for you!

    5. July 10, 2017 at 2:14 pm

I hadn’t even considered it could be a group thing. But I guess it could.

    6. July 10, 2017 at 2:16 pm

Basically, throw a bitching party with lots of booze and model wavers, then have at it…. can you get a grant?

    7. July 10, 2017 at 2:17 pm

you could also do singles… but for efficiency having multiple people at once getting liquored up, for the sake of art of course, makes sense.

    8. July 10, 2017 at 2:27 pm

Dude. If people would give me money for that it would be awesome.

  3. July 10, 2017 at 2:43 pm

If I lived anywhere near you, I would totally volunteer.

    1. July 10, 2017 at 2:55 pm

Awww. It’s only like a 3 day drive! You’ll be here in no time.

    2. July 10, 2017 at 2:57 pm

I’ve made that drive. It’s closer to 5 days, and it sucks.

Though that was 20 years ago, before the Alcan highway was mostly paved. So likely a faster and nicer trip now.

    3. July 10, 2017 at 3:06 pm

well, that was according to my maps app and assumed you drove non stop… which, if you did would kinda make the photos fun even without the alcohol

    4. July 10, 2017 at 3:08 pm

Maybe for you, but I wouldn’t want to make that trip and then sleep through the whole damn thing.

Don’t suppose you’ll be near Minneapolis next month? I’ll be there for a conference.

    5. July 10, 2017 at 3:10 pm

I mean. I don’t have any plans to be. But I’m also summer unemployed. So I have Time and a camera but no money. So if you want to fly me to Minneapolis to be your drinking and photo buddy i won’t complain.

I’m worth several hundred dollars to drink with right?

    6. July 10, 2017 at 3:13 pm

If I had an extra several hundred dollars laying around, then definitely.

Alas, that is not the case. Ah, well. Next time I’m in your neck of the woods, though!

  4. July 10, 2017 at 4:11 pm

That sounds like the premise of a really good event.

    1. July 10, 2017 at 4:13 pm

      And pretty trivial really.

    2. July 10, 2017 at 4:14 pm

It doesn’t have to be wine. I’m imagining a flight of cocktails.

    3. July 10, 2017 at 4:15 pm

And something energetic, like dancing or the Wii

    4. July 10, 2017 at 4:15 pm

      Or a hike.

    5. July 10, 2017 at 4:19 pm

All up to the subject. But yes.

    6. July 10, 2017 at 4:29 pm

How many people need to be there, drinking at what rate, so that you can immediately shoot the next round of photographs after finishing the previous set?

    7. July 10, 2017 at 4:30 pm

well in my mind one. Because I was just thinking I’d do them one on one until Philip Edward Lewis pointed out they could be done in bulk.

    8. July 10, 2017 at 6:55 pm

It would be more representative of my experience of drunkenness to have a group of people.

    9. July 10, 2017 at 7:01 pm

Whatever works. I just felt like it was harder to do with a group. Just the logistics of finding a time when everyone was available for a party.

Maybe my birthday. I haven’t done a Jammy jam in a while. They got too expensive. This could be a cheaper option.

  5. July 10, 2017 at 4:16 pm

If I were closer, of course! You’re one of the few photographers that I would trust to actually make me look ok;)

    1. July 10, 2017 at 4:20 pm

Like I told Katya Gorecki and Heather Sawyer… feel free to drive up.

    2. July 10, 2017 at 4:23 pm

I will be up there eventually:)

    3. July 10, 2017 at 4:28 pm

      I’ll be here.

  6. July 10, 2017 at 4:32 pm

Wow. People actually want to do this. Yay! ?

    1. July 10, 2017 at 4:34 pm

well duh. Getting drunk with you and taking pics sounds like an amazing time.

  7. July 10, 2017 at 6:50 pm

This one does sound kind of interesting.

    1. July 10, 2017 at 6:52 pm

      Does that mean you’re in?

    2. July 10, 2017 at 6:58 pm

It would definitely be interesting as I don’t drink much anymore. I trust you so yeah, why not.

    3. July 10, 2017 at 7:02 pm

      Aww. Thanks.

    4. July 10, 2017 at 7:15 pm

Your welcome. I’d do either single or group. It does seem like it would be a fun project.

  8. July 10, 2017 at 6:54 pm

So since people are interested give me times you’re free (local people. Out of towners I get that’s just whenever).

I guess I could do individuals or group sets like Philip suggested.

  9. July 11, 2017 at 5:48 am

    Yessss this is cool!! XD

    1. July 11, 2017 at 6:16 am

And the trip for you is easy. Only like 6000 miles!
