Day 809 of 365 Again.

You know what’s funny. I think every 365er who starts out with a point and shoot camera gets to the point that they’re a good enough photographer that they want an SLR. I’m a good enough photographer that I want a point and shoot again.

I love my camera. I spend way too much of my income on camera stuff. But sometimes I just don’t feel like lugging that big bag of lenses and everything around. That’s why so many of my pics are in the studio. I actually take my camera bag with me everyday. I have it at home, I have it at work. But the last thing I want to do is open it up in a bar or restaurant or something somewhere.

I’d been going out a lot lately. Today I decided to take Steph’s camera with me for the express purpose of taking a picture of myself while I was out.

You have no idea how long it took me just to figure out how to turn on the self-timer… crazy contraptions. *sigh*

Mav… I had a headstart on the SLR front. First a lightweight Nikon D50 with cheap and light 28-80mm lens… I’m now on my 3rd DSLR, a Nikon D300, which is considerably heavier. I’ve added to that weight with a healthy selection of lenses… the most extreme being the 150-500mm bazooka from Sigma. My gear now takes up all of a carry-on bag, or 50% of the available storage space in my Lotus. And now that I’m shooting in RAW and post-processing everything, the backlog of photos I need to work through has also become problematic.

Which leads me to thinking the next lens I buy is going to come attached to a small but capable point-n-shoot. Something better than my phone, but pocket-able. (and which has an option for a waterproof case… I love underwater photography, but good SLR cases are more than my SLR.) My coworker who is in a similar boat with his D200 (plus a huge collection of large and medium format gear) has done the same, and added a PnS to the mix too.

    You are not alone.

hahahahaha! Think of all the time I spent agonizing over whether to invest in my DSLR!!! But I can’t stop carrying around the last p ‘n s! I keep it in the backpack with the lenses all the time.

@olga_sgr!: heh. Well, I have another one now, so no. But thanks. 🙂

@denovich: yep, I ended up getting the Olympus Stylus 1030SW

@lrayholly: I’ve been keeping the new P&S in my pocket. It’s nice to have something that I really can take with me everywhere.
