Day 664 of 365 More.

You know, this staying up all night working on photography stuff was a lot easier before I had a job.

Last night I stayed up late to get the most recent Cosmic Hellcats comic posted and plan this out, but I was still in bed by 4am. I never thought I’d be up this late tonight. I wanted to be asleep by 2am. It’s now almost 6:30.

As I mentioned yesterday, this week’s podcast challenge was "collaboration." It was one I had been looking forward to, so I wanted to do something really big. I decided to write several of my favorite 365ers past and present and ask them to help me out with a photo.

Originally I was thinking I might do some kind of superhero thing, but I just wasn’t feeling it. Then I thought "I haven’t done a magazine cover in a while and this idea started to take shape.

Like any photographer, I’m a big fan of Annie Liebovitz. And like any photographer, I’d love a gig shooting for one of the big magazines. All the people you see here probably feel the same way. Looking over some of Liebovitz’s Vanity Fair covers, I figured out this was what I wanted to do. That’s what the sketch was about yesterday.

The sad thing is, I’m afraid a lot of people will just ignore this pic not realizing what’s going on. So I want to make sure everyone does know. The 10 people you see here, 9 of my favorite 365ers and all people I consider friends are actually spread out across 8 different cities. Most of us have never met. I believe them all to be wonderfully talented individuals and remarkable people. And for the most part (with the exceptions of Steph and Mickey who I already knew), I owe my entire relationships with each one of them to this project. Today, through the magic of photoshop, we can all appear together. I hope that one day we can take this shot in real life.

Thank you to Mikey, Mickey,James, Jessi, Steph, Jason, Jack, Nicole and Kat for doing this with me. You guys are great. Sorry it took so long. Please check out all of their streams and see their wonderful work.

Now I’m going to sleep for an hour and a half and go to my real job.

    I saw a few of these individual SPs pop up in my contacts yesterday and was curious what was up. Something about a collaboration. I had no idea it would be anything this cool! Great job Maverick!

    Each individual picture is great. The collaboration (much like putting us all together in 365 Days) is so much better. GREAT JOB on this!

    Turned out great! Nicely done, Mav.

  3. June 6, 2008 at 8:00 am

    Great idea and as always, amazing execution!

    And I’m trying not to be offended you didn’t ask me. 😉

  4. June 6, 2008 at 9:01 am

    This is SUPER amazing!!!
    What a great idea and so well executed!!!

  5. June 6, 2008 at 9:03 am

    too great to see so many talented people together!

  6. June 6, 2008 at 9:30 am

    @Jim Lamb aka Travelinjim: did they? I know Mikey and Kat posted theirs. DIdn’t notice any of the others, but I was pretty tied up working on this. I feel bad it took me all night. Mickey thought it would have been cool if we all posted them at the exact same time. It would have, but I couldn’t get it done fast enough.

    @Sick Little Monkey: thanks. And thanks for doing it. You’ll notice a couple outfit modifications.

    @sadandbeautiful (Sarah): thanks. And actually I did think of you. Initially I was only planning on asking people who were "ineligible for the podcast prize" and since you are, I decided not to. Then when I decided I needed more people at literally the last minute, I started sending IMs to people, and I don’t have yours. But I did think of you.

    @sabine’s fotos: thanks. Glad you like it.

    @KatColorado: heh… yeah, like i said, I wish I could shoot it for real.

    Seeing this while on a 12 mile hike. Looks good

  8. June 6, 2008 at 9:42 am

    @Mikey aka DaSkinnyBlackMan: you have flickr on hikes? Huh… the military ain’t all bad. BTW, got the print. Thank you to both you and Rachael.

  9. June 6, 2008 at 9:50 am

    Awesome work!!
    – I thought this was great even before I realized it was a collaboration!! Now that I realize (’cause I read the description!) it, I think it is triple awesome!!
    wow…..

    Seen in my contacts’ photos. (?)

  10. June 6, 2008 at 9:53 am

  11. June 6, 2008 at 10:05 am

    What can I say?? I LOVE it, it was so worth the wait. You are awesome and I am just honored to have been included. Yay us. Oh and we will meet some day 🙂

  12. June 6, 2008 at 10:34 am

    Absolutely FABULOUS!
    Well done.

  13. June 6, 2008 at 10:53 am

    Dude, I was totally wearing black! 😛

    Nicely done, Mab. I am totally impressed with your skillz.

  14. June 6, 2008 at 10:59 am

    @Babs1696: Oh good. That makes me feel a lot better. See the thing is, to me its obviously faked because I know where all the seams and everything are. I dunno. Glad you like it.

    @lrayholly: Was there any doubt?

    @PhotoKat: Thanks again, Bonnie. And one of these days I so will have my 365 Days national (international?) convention. It’s been a dream of mine forever.

    @*ManyFacets*: thank you.

    @jessi.: Are you sure? I’m prety sure you were wearing red just like all the other girls. 😉 I mean, it’s right there in the picture. 😀 And did you call me Mab on purpose or just make the same typo Stephen did (either is amusing).

  15. June 6, 2008 at 11:24 am

    Of course I called you Mab on purpose. I never make typos. 😛

  16. June 6, 2008 at 11:35 am

    woohoo! we look good man! Thanks for all your had work on this!!
    I’ll post my copy when I get home from work today. 🙂

  17. June 6, 2008 at 11:37 am

    @jessi.: ooh… my mistake sorry for doubting you. 😛

    @mickeysacks: heh… glad you like it. I was afraid everyone would hate it. There are quite a few things that bother me. Own worst critic and all that.

  18. June 6, 2008 at 12:09 pm

    haha great fun

  19. June 6, 2008 at 12:21 pm

    This totally rocks!!!

  20. June 6, 2008 at 12:36 pm

    Hoe. Lee. Shit.

    This is amazing.

    I love how all us girls were in reds and pinks.

    I’m so glad you did the Photoshopping on this cause I don’t have that much patience. Or skill. Haha.

    And I think Jessi meant MAB – Mighty Awesome Beast!

    Right Jess?

  21. June 6, 2008 at 12:50 pm

    This is completely awesome. Completely.

  22. June 6, 2008 at 12:57 pm

    wow~ so, so cool!

  23. June 6, 2008 at 12:57 pm

    I love these collaboration shots I’ve been seeing. It’s really nice to see Flickr people, most of who have never met each other, getting together do these shots. I think it’s awesome… and this looked like it was fun. 🙂

  24. June 6, 2008 at 1:03 pm

    nice work mav!

  25. June 6, 2008 at 1:08 pm

  26. June 6, 2008 at 1:11 pm

  27. June 6, 2008 at 1:22 pm

    That is great 🙂

  28. June 6, 2008 at 1:32 pm

    Awesome. And I’m totally not bitter either. 😉

  29. June 6, 2008 at 1:32 pm

    Great work and fun idea!

  30. June 6, 2008 at 1:40 pm

    Dude you rock

  31. June 6, 2008 at 1:48 pm

    you’ve done it again, Mav
    nice work

  32. June 6, 2008 at 1:48 pm

    @☼ Helder: thanks. Glad you like it.

    @365bunnies: I’m glad. I honestly was worried that it looked like crap this morning.

    @Nicole (Shipwrecked): 😀 See, now my head is getting all big. 😉 And certain people might not have actually worn red/pink and might have had to be helped along digitally. But I’m not going to mention Jessi’s name here. 😉

    @Andrea With A Camera: I completely thank you.

    @*Kristene: thanks

    @adayinthelife: yeah. I had a lot of fun doing it, even though it was tiring. I drew it out ahead of time and we all kinda discussed it, and as the shots started rolling in to me, I could kinda put them together in my head and I was really happy about how I thought they’d work out.

    @arkworld: thank you

    @iplaruf: thanks.

    @cutiger is *40*!: heehee… mine too. 🙂 Thanks.

    @Leesamaree: thanx.

    @d.rex: heh… you know, like I was telling Sarah, I did have a list of possibles, and I got up to 10 and I thought that was enough. I did have the thought that maybe I should get like 15-20 and do it wide like an actual Liebovitz cover and I was feeling kinda lame that I didn’t, until like 3am this morning when I still was no where close to done and I became happy I only had 10.

    @pir8.: thank you. It was fun to do.

    @Smileywt: heh… I’m starting to believe that. Thanks.

  33. June 6, 2008 at 1:50 pm

    @Crystal Chroma: well, it wasn’t just me this time. Thanks.

  34. June 6, 2008 at 1:53 pm

    wow! this such a great idea. impressive!

  35. June 6, 2008 at 2:01 pm

    oh is this FANTASTIC!!!!! you are the BOMB!!!!

  36. June 6, 2008 at 2:02 pm

    Very cool collaboration!!! Some of my favorite people too!

  37. June 6, 2008 at 2:03 pm

    Certain people were not informed about the color selection and had already mentioned that they would be wearing black.

    Hmph. 😛

  38. June 6, 2008 at 2:36 pm

    Ha! This is pure awesomeness! Great collaboration!

  39. June 6, 2008 at 2:38 pm

    Nice job Mav

  40. June 6, 2008 at 2:38 pm

    Nice job Mav!

  41. June 6, 2008 at 2:42 pm

    this is an incredible tribute to friendships forged through flickr. great work, mister. x

  42. June 6, 2008 at 4:18 pm

    @pam.ela: thanks. I’m glad I came up with it. It was really fun.

    @Marvelous Momma: heh… thanks.

    @TXAlleKat: yeah… me too. But now that so many people feel left out, I really wish I had done the three section folded cover.

    @jessi.: Aren’t you psychic like the other girls? Actually, I just told people to wear whatever, but since Mickey, Kat and Nicole all chose the same color, I decided to dress me and steph that way too. And it really was easy enough to repaint your shirt. I actually repainted Mikey’s tie too, and I changed James’ shirt from blue to black to better match the other boys. I actually do little color corrections like that on a lot of my photos.

    @Blu Sun *Carrie*: thanks.

    @Grateful Clem: thank you, glad you like it.

    @thehalfshow.com: Thanks. And thanks again for participating.

    @obo-bobolina: thank you. Actually all the headlines came about later. They just seemed to fit.

  43. June 6, 2008 at 4:31 pm

    Just for kicks, I thought I’d show this. This is the storyboard I sketched for use to work off of when we were shooting:

    By the way, I was also too sleepy to mention that the part of the shot with me and Steph in it was actuallly taken with the i-Shot Jr. Remote developed by Sarah (sadandbeautiful) and her husband. Perfect for doing stuff like this. If you don’t have one, you should totally ask her how to buy one.

  44. June 6, 2008 at 4:31 pm

    spectacular!

  45. June 6, 2008 at 5:59 pm

    I’m with Nicole: Hol. Lee. Shit. I found this through Mickey’s stream. I at first thought you all had really hit the big time. I mean, Annie! VF! Graydon! The first annual Flickr edition! I’d renew my subscription just for that.

  46. June 6, 2008 at 7:25 pm
