Day 661 of 365 More.

This is a story of hope. A very short story because I am watching the game.

I’m not a huge hockey fan (not like football), but I do enjoy it. And when I watch, I root for the Pittsburgh Penguins. As I’ve mentioned in previous recent shots, the Pens are currently in the Stanley Cup Finals. And they haven’t been doing well. in a best of 7 series they are down 3 games to 1. Win or go home.

Tonight, they were down 3-2. The fans were singing victory songs in the final minute. Steph and I were on the edge of our seats just hoping and hoping.

With less than 35 seconds of regulation play, 35 seconds away from a world chamipionship, the Detroit Redwings gave up a goal.

At this very moment, we our now in overtime (took this shot during the break).

Keep hope alive!

Go Pens! Beat the Dead Things!!!

We haven’t been watching the series, but we watch the last half of the first OT. Always fun to watch the end of an intense game like this. Go Pens!!!

    Fleury ROCKS!!!

Double overtime now, Mav. I fear you’ll probably get the win, but as I said before, I’m ready to not have to hear Crosby’s name again this season. Of course, some of that is sour grapes as a Washington/Alex Ovechkin fan.

Seen in my contacts’ photos. (?)

    Go wings!

Frith on the hill, that was one hell of a double header! Fleury deserves anything he asks for for that game alone. Geaux Pens!

    I love comebacks! (fingers crossed)

DETROIT: The Stanley Cup and cases of champagne were put in place for the Detroit Red Wings’ celebration.

    Oops.

Pittsburgh spoiled the party plans when Maxime Talbot scored with 35 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and Petr Sykora notched the winner 9:57 into the third extra session to lift the Penguins to a 4-3 win over Detroit on Monday night in Game 5 and send the series back to the Igloo.

Suddenly, it doesn’t seem like a lock that the Red Wings will be hoisting the Stanley Cup for the fourth time in 11 seasons or sipping and spraying champagne.

Note to NBC: It’s bad enough that you keep Mike Emrick, who consistently can’t tell the difference between the Penguins best offensive player and their worst because 87 looks a little like 37, but really, cutting to a shot of the trustee taking the Cup out of its case and giving it a final polish when there’s 5 minutes left in the game?

By the way, it’s been 66 years since a team came back from 3-1 down in the finals. Destiny, baby.

P.S., how long has it been since you’ve seen that stick? 😛

    Sixty-six years?!?!

    🙂

    so who won?

great shot btw Mav, really like your black and white treatment and the composition

Sixty-six years from the first airplane flight (1903) to landing men on the moon. Probably not what you were thinking about, but an amazing level of technological advancement in mechanicals and materials. Since 1969, it has been advancements in computer power and miniaturization that have been astounding.

But what does that have to do with hockey??

Well anyway, go Penguins! (Will root for underdogs any day.)

  13. June 3, 2008 at 10:25 am

Great shot! How about that triple OT winner! Did you make it the whole way through the game? Let’s go Pens!

  14. June 3, 2008 at 10:43 am

Ummm… no. I was actually thinking of a certain Penguin. Mario… #66… didn’t think it would be that hard, lol.

Thankfully it did not come down to a shootout. I hate that! It should be sudden-death overtime until someone scores.

Now see that, M Styborski, jersey numbers just don’t stick in my head like other stuff does. 🙂

Zoë and I play hockey all the time.
