Day 437 of 365 More.
Well, it is good to know that posting a pic of me eating a hot, half-naked girl did boost my views a bit, but I guess I really expected it to get a lot more comments and faves that it did. I liked it a lot, because I thought it told more of a story than my shots usually do, and I figured "fishnets, thong, high heels and ass shot" should get some attention anyway. But *shrug* I guess not. I give up. I have no idea what people want.
Anyway, been really busy at work. I have a deadline for this Friday, and the work I have to do is kicking my ass. For those who don’t know, I’m a user interface designer. I decide how computer programs and websites should look. And I’m pretty good at it too. But I’m more of a concept guy. I like to design how something is going to look with several proofs of concept and hand it over to the engineers with some instructions that fill in the blank. I’m now in a situation where I can’t do that. We need to deliver designs for every possible screen, even though many are only subtly different than the previous ones. It’s the one thing I hate about what I do more than anything else. And what’s worse, where I am now, I’m not part of the UI department. I am the entire department. So I don’t even have someone I can dump stuff off on. *sigh* every once in a while I really do want to just be a bartender.
Oh, and no, this picture has nothing to do with the story. But hey, I kinda like it anyway.

Sometimes the oddest things get noticed, and the best shots get ignored.

@Tojosan: I never really went out of my way to be so dark. it’s just what eventually ended up working for me. Really, its only about half of my planned shots that look like that. Maybe a little less. It turns out though that I end up using the studio a lot more, whenever I am tired and don’t have a lot of time to come up with something. It’s just easy.

put your model photos in more groups mav…more groups=more views. not everyone in 365 is out looking for a story. i thought it was a great photo…but hey, i already like your work.
try it. see what happens. i bet you get a lot more feedback and faves than you expect.
@pi c’s: yeah… I know… its just so much work. I’ll have to do that though
it’s not much more work…sometimes it can be…but really, if you just add them to the groups when you upload. if you’re using the flickr uploader, you have the choice to add them to a set right away…but no a group. if you go into ORGANIZE you can select the tags, then add ALL of them to specific groups right there.
I’m sure you already know all that….
@pi c’s: yeah, I just don’t like mass adding stuff to groups. I always like to go "this one should be in these 5 groups, this one in these 10, this one in 3 from the first, 4 from the second and these 2 others." I guess I’m just too picky.
well don’t mass add. hell, it’s rare for me to add photos to groups these days…except for today…i’m sick and i’ve been online WAY too long so i’ve gone back and added a bunch that i thought were worthy of more attention to a few groups or just one group. yes, it’s time consuming…but if you want the feedback and are not getting it from your contacts…guess you’d better not be so picky 🙂
@pi c’s: yeah, I know… and I did add to a bunch. Don’t mind me. I’m just being whiny. 🙂
Ugh. I never know what people want.
I’ve been posting primarily gritty, downtown, industrial sorts of photos lately, and my views and comments have been slowly declining. I posted a self-portrait as an experiment yesterday, and I’m up to 31 comments. I posted it last night at about 10:30, and it was in explore in about 2 hours.
Seriously. I don’t get it.
@jessi.: yeah… my SPs never make explore when I expect it. And my model shots almost never hit at all. I dunno.
It’s always the ones that I am most proud of that never seem to impress anyone else. Maybe it’s because the ones that I find so fascinating are the ones that appear to be so simple.
I don’t know. All I know is that if I want to be a total expiore-whore, I will just go back to posting a whole bunch of self-portraits. 😉
heh… I do post a bunch of self portraits. And half naked girls. You’d think that would do it. I’m bitter to this day that my Day 365 portrait never made it. i mean, it has 109 views. What do I have to do?
just reading your comments back and forth with jessi. i know what you guys mean. it seems that way with me too…though, mav at least knows how much stock i put into explore.
i don’t understand why your 365 shot never made it either…lots of views, faves….should’ve been there! i know it doesn’t make you feel any better but my SOTTS pic was 1 of 3 others that didn’t make it. Lame.
@pi c’s: I try to not care about explore, but some how the mystery of it all just grabs me and I can’t help myself.
