Day 59 of 365 days.

Here we go. A color photo.

You know how some people have problems with cocaine and heroin and stuff? I have this addiction to DVDs. I know. I know. But somehow I just can’t help myself. I started out just experimenting with VHS. The gateway media. And then it was the hardcore stuff. Laserdiscs. And that gave way to DVDs. Sometimes 5 or 6 in a week. Sure I’ll go on the wagon. I’ll try to get the monkey off my back. But then a friend will get something. Maybe just a little romantic comedy. And I’ll watch. Next thing you know I’m buying boxed sets of a tv series. Stacks and stacks of movies, over 500, all alphabetized and entered into a database. Sometimes I actually total up how much money I’ve put into them over the years, compare that value to the cost of my truck and I am sad.

Maybe there’s a 12 step program…

    See, I have no problem with alphabetizing them and putting them into a database. But, some people might see that as a little bit weird.

    Some really good movies there. Do you actually watch them more than once or twice?

    Dude, there’s a 12-step group for EVERYTHING. 😉

    Thanks for your comment today, Mav. I really appreciated you stopping by the ol’ blog!

    I’m that organized with my music – movies I rent dude, you might consider it, netflix, just for kicks.

    @Jim: Yeah, I watch a lot of them multiple times, others not so much.

    @Sarah: You’re welcome. Any time.

    @Qathi: Renting just isn’t the same. I can’t do a real rental place because I’d just spend a fortune on late fees and netflix doesn’t work for me because I like having choices at my fingertips. I don’t want to deal with mail and picking things ahead of time and the like. I like being able to be in a conversation with a guest in my house and saying "you’ve never seen Cannibal Women in The Avacado Jungle of Death? How can that be? Sit right down and watch this."

    That movie is so bad I actually own it. I’m a big renter and I supplament with netflix, between the two it’s okay. Back home, my video store was way too cool about rental and late fees – in that I rarely had to pay either 😉 i see your point – and all I can think is you must own your house, and aren’t planning on moving any time soon 😉

    Yes, we do own the house. But I was addicted to buying DVDs even before that. It’s not supposed to make sense. It’s an addiction, you see.

    ooh, those addictions, damn them! well, at least you’ll never be sitting around saying "there’s nothing to watch". we have a similar problem with music cd’s….between chris and i it’s rather ridiculous. unfortunately a lot of our music is duplicates from our lives before each other 😀

    At this point music is pretty much only listened to on MP3 or satellite radio for us. We have a few CDs in our bedroom, but most of them are packed away in our basement. They just take up too much space. So do movies really, but somehow, its different.

    Which ones, Marcela?

    You are not the only one with a serious DVD addiction….I joined Netflix to try to curb my spending, but it’s not helping….and we have a lot of the same films……

    This is so great. I’ve got similar issues. I just ran up and counted…I’ve only got about 150, but still! The really silly thing is that I have 4-year-old (sorry, 4 and A HALF) twins so it’s rare that I can actually watch anything that’s not G or PG (though my son loved Jurassic Park — whoo-hoo!) — still, I just bought a second copy of Elektra a few days ago (what can I say, Alias got me hooked). Let me know when you figure out that 12-step thing…though I’m not sure I want to stop. 🙂

    I have this addiction myself, I will buy the dvds, then I need money so I sell them, and say to myself, they just take up space anyway… then I have to start buying them again… its a never ending cycle.
