Day 42 of 365 days.

Introducing the camera with which I will be taking the majority of the rest of the pictures in this project. The Canon EOS 400D Digital Rebel XTi. This picture was of course not taken with it, and instead was taken with my old Canon G3. This is the first Digital SLR I’ve owned and the first SLR in probably over a decade since I lost my old one. So while the quality of the camera has improved, there’s the very real chance that my shot quality will decrease starting tomorrow as I try to become familiar with using one again.

great cam! congrats, and enjoy it 🙂

i bet you’ll get used to it very quickly. it only took me two days to not miss my G5 anymore

ps. advise: get the 50mm F1.8 prime lense… it’s relatively cheap – about 100 bucks – and amazing for portraits

Yep, I have that lens too, Wim. It has a plastic housing, so don’t drop it, and a cheapie autofocus motor, but the glass is quite good! The kit lens’s glass is good, too.

    You will LOVE this camera!!

@wimdejonge and phleght: I’ve looked at that lens and have been considering it actually. I didn’t get the kit lens because other photographer friends spoke poorly of it and I don’t have much need to get down to 18mm very often. So I’m using a huge 28-135mm zoom. But if the 50mm fixed is good then I’ll look into it next paycheck maybe. It’d be nice to have a nice prime lens that isn’t so huge that I can’t carry the camera places.

I agree with wimdejonge, that 50mm prime has got to be the best deal out there. Feels like a toy but is pure magic. I love mine.

Yeah, I end up using that one a lot. It was definitely a good purchase decision.
