9-11-06

Day 31 of 365 days.
And so I’ve last a whole month. Only 11 more to go. Some of its been hard. Some easy, but its definitely been fun.

And this is the fourth day of me Bringing Back the Sexy. I actually had this mirror idea, or versions of it much earlier in the project and am just now getting to it. Originally it was going to be much less photoshoppy and just a single picture and the reflection. Steph in fact likes that idea best (and wanted me to post just the big upper picture with the hand), but I kind of felt like it needed more. I dunno. Maybe maybe not. But I wanted to play with composition and stuff a bit more. What do other people think? Did I go overboard?

I think I may have to try something like this again with a much cuter (read more feminine) model sometime.

Hmmm, I was hoping to get all three tattoos in there but only pulled off two of them. The one on my back just doesn’t show up in many very interesting shots. Oh well.

Good job on the lighting and blending the images together. I was wondering if softening one or more of the images will help the other(s) stand out and create more of an impact. Just an idea, though it is fine as it is.

Thanks for your commentaries. The truth, also I found that with the border the photos were not seen well, for that reason no longer I put to them. It enchants your photo to me, the effect is brilliant. Many greetings, that you are well. =) [o.0]

Great work. Each of the individual pictures stand completely on their own. Though I do have to say that the second largest I don’t like as much. I feel like it gives the photo a different meaning.

Very cool idea! The top image is sexy, love the pose and reflection. Though I have to say the mood of the middle image is different to me as well. In the top image the eyes and pose are seductive. I think a reflection of chest on that pose would have been better. Though I have to say the mood of the middle image is different to me as well. The second image appears more confused, with a somewhat uptight posture. I also feel the image is a little busy for my taste. Though it could have worked if the two images had the same mood. That is my two cents anyway. Still you did a great job with this!!! And the photo is a great shot! " COMMENTSCOMMENTSCOMMENTS "

i think it is way too busy. as i’ve mentioned before, sexy is subjective. and it’s also about comfort. some people like to be taken out of the comfort in order to feel the surge of sexy eroticism….some like the simple comfort of their own bed with the curtains drawn…..that sort of thing (and anything in between). this is not what i would consider sexy, as you look like you are really trying to force a pose to get the tattoo on your back (?maybe not? esp. the lower right image) and in my opinion you are trying to copy a kind of sexiness that is more feminine and not capturing a more masculine sexiness. not sure if this makes sense to you, but i am trying to be constructive. 🙂

Ok, I didn’t read all the comments and i do like it, it is too photoshoppy I think to be very sexy…but each photo in itself is sexy. I think I may have to agree with your girlfriend…the one on its own may be best for your mini-challenge, but as i said, they do work together too (just would’ve gone with the one myself). i had a similar idea yesterday but since I looked pretty terrible…it wasn’t the day to try it out!

    well done

  37. September 12, 2006 at 10:12 am

@Avril Hodge: actually, I totally forgot about the tattoo on my back (I usually do, since I never see it) til afterwards. It’s on my right shoulder blade, and I didn’t take any shots of that at all.

But I do agree that the mood of the middle pic is different than the top, and maybe not as "intense" and maybe eve a little too feminine (I even said myself, I’m going to have to try the same shot with a girl at some point).

@XStormyX: Same thing, I had this idea that with lots of mirrors I could "reflect different moods." Maybe it didn’t work as well as I’d hoped. Oh well.

To everyone who thought the top pic worked best by itself, It is posted and I’d love to know what you think:

  38. September 12, 2006 at 10:36 am

Nice one, but I will love to see what else you do with this idea! 11 more months to find out! And congratulations on 1 month down….it is at times difficult, but I am addicted, as I know all of us are! And things keep getting more interesting for everyone! plus: the original photo has a really cool perspective and DOF
minus: the one by itself works much, much better because the reflection is cool; the one posted seems a bit homoerotic/autoerotic and cheesy; I did not want to see your butt

Great job in the design and idea. I really like th yin and yang of it all. The two personalities come through strong. I find the white balance in the photos used to be not consistant but overall this is a great pic.

plus: Nice, crisp clear shot and the skin tones are great (must have had some nice light)
minus: I think the photoshopped lower version detracts from the very stong, bold upper image.

This is an interesting composition with great expression on the sitters face. The hand plays an important role in the picture and for me is the focal point. My only criticism is that the shot appears a little to busy.

this is a nice idea. basically is a good work, sense of proportion and perspective is good. there’s only a difference of exposition and tones between the big and the small man.. this creates a strange effect.

    Excelent!:)

  62. September 13, 2006 at 11:19 pm

@Dom Fernando: Mostly just a lot of time and patience.

The shoot was done laying on a full length mirror. Then I mereged the shots in different layers in Photoshop and used masks to get them composited correctly. The large background image was doubled into a second layer then gaussian blurred and turned into a Hard Light layer to give it a more diffuse look. The poster on the ground was created in another layer and then layed under a mask below my arm in the foreground layer. The foreground layer was doubled into a silhoutte which was gaussian blurred, distorted and skewed to be a shadow. Then I hand painted some corrections with my sketch tablet.
