on things I really need to stop doing…

dislocating my shoulder…

ow…. Damn, I wish I was smart.

Actually, it wasn’t nearly as bad this time as it was when I did it before. And at least I did it on a move that I had never tried before this time, instead of something I had been doing for over a decade. Oddly, another flippy move, this time the moonsault. A wise martial arts sensei once told me (actually, it was ludimagist, and I think he’s told me on multiple occasions) some sage advice about flippy fighting moves. When fighting if at any time your head is closer to the ground than your feet, something has gone horribly wrong. Damn, I wish I was smart.

Anyway, I don’t think the injury is that bad. Last time, I had a really bad strain after it was replaced and was having problems moving it for a while afterwards (and in fact, still have slightly reduced motion in it). Its definitely sore today, but movement-wise it doesn’t see any worse that it did beforehand. Definitely sore though. The smart thing to do would be to take it easy for a few days. On the other hand, I’m supposed to go white water rafting tomorrow. Damn, I wish I was smart.

On a good note, there are only 2 more days until my health insurance kicks in again. Coincidentally, its the same time I enter Carousel. And of course with my luck, I’ll never get hurt again…

Carousel? I thought you had to be 35 for that, not that I’ve seen that movie in forever. Referencial? Or are you referring to something else?

nope… 30 in the movie, 21 in the book.

Oh, was it 7-14-21 in the novel and 10-20-30 in the movie?

      Referencial!

It’s been a while since I read the novel, but I think the colors are: less than ten years old = blue, ten to twenty years old = yellow, twenty to thirty years old = red, over thirty = black.

I made like a flock of seagulls and ran.

        Re: Referencial!

you’re mixing the book and movie…

the book (which sadly I actually haven’t read): has 0-6 yellow, 7-13 blue, and 14-20 red. Blinks red/black on last day, and black at 21.

the movie added a color, changed blue to green and raised the ages… 0-7 white, 8-15 yellow, 16-23 green, 24-29 red, Blinks red/black on last day, and black at 30.

Wrestling w/o health insurance = not a good idea

On a first aid type note, sleeping on one of those reusable cold compresses for 2-3 nights really helps take the stiffness out.

If you’re prone to dislocation, a physical therapist can show you specific isolated lat excercizes to build up the muscles and toughen the tendons surrounding the joint and make it less prone to pop. If you like, I can give you the number for the one who I worked with before and after my arm surgery. She is great and quite knowledgeable.

You’ll note the part where I admitted to not being smart…

as for the PT. Yeah, I might… let me see how things go as I heal up this time. Its only happened twice, and never without pretty bad provocation. But if it happens again, I’ll definitely be wanting to give them a call. Thanx.

Re: if you are flying through the air upside down…

        Well, at least acknowledging it.

Though I thought you said you would have me speaking in koans in all your references to me as a martial arts instructor.

oops… yeah, I should have done that… what would be a good way to restate that quote.
